The importance of monitoring energy efficiency has been highlighted by the introduction of the Home Information Packs (HIP).
An important part of the Home Information Packs is an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC). Required for buildings under the EU Energy Performance in Buildings Directive, it will provide a property with a consumer-friendly A to G energy rating - with the most efficient homes having an 'A' energy rating and less impact on the environment.

EPCs are valid for a period of ten years (validity length under review) unless any major alterations are made. It is possible to obtain a new one at any time.
Will my property fail the energy assessment?
EPCs are required for when selling (or renting- October 2008). The certificate will not set energy standards so it is impossible to pass or fail.
